What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are constantly evolving with technology. Today we will take a closer look at the dental implant process to see why dental implants in Mexico are a great solution in replacing missing teeth.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are the best treatment to replace teeth that have been lost, either due to trauma or natural causes. Having your dental implants in Cancun is the most economic option in comparison to the United States and Canada.

Many years ago, the replacement of missing teeth was taken care of by placing removable prostheses, which were uncomfortable and problematic. Currently dental implants have become the gold standard in replacing missing teeth. Not only does it give the patient better functionality and esthetics, but it also helps the patient prevent future bone loss! Making dental implants a standard of excellence in the dental community.

To have a fixed artificial prosthesis that looks aesthetically pleasing and fulfills all functions of natural teeth is a possible dream for many people.

Dental implants are small metal screws that are placed surgically in the jaws. These metal screws replace the root of a tooth. 4-6 months after the placement of the implant, crowns, bridges, or fixed dentures are placed to restore the patients dentition.

Components of a Dental Implant

The dental implants are composed of three elements:

  • Implant Body. – Is a screw that is inserted into the jaw, This screw will take 4-6 months to osseo integrate and bond with your bone. Once the implant is stable we can restore it and place the following piences.
  • Pillar (Abutment) – ¬†Is the part ¬†that connects to the implant with the restoration, this ensures that the implant and the crown are well connected avoiding issues in the future.
  • Crown.¬†It is the imitation of the natural tooth that will grant us its functionality and aesthetics.

Surgery

The process of this treatment is done under local or general anesthesia in a 100% sterilized environment. A maxillofacial surgeon will place local anesthesia so that you do not have any sensation of pain during the procedure.

Once the implants have been placed, they must wait until the Osseo integration process is completed in order to restore them. This is the process when the dental implants adhere to the bone making the implant as strong (if not stronger) as a natural root. This process takes approximately 4 to 6 months.
