Composite Resin Fillings
Improve the appearance and strength of teeth
Composite Resin Fillings, also known as tooth-colored fillings, provide strength and resistance to fracture in small- to mid-size fillings. This type of fillings needs to withstand moderate pressure due to chewing.
Composite helps the filling look more natural and is used on either front or back teeth.
The white filling is safe for human use and consumption, it contains monomers (urethane dimethacrylate) and minerals (glass, quartz, silica, pyrogen). This is a type of plastic that dentists use to fill tooth cavities. It is cured (hardened) with blue light.

On average, the price of a resin composite filling is defined by the size of the tooth cavity (decay). This type of filling is slightly more expensive than traditional amalgam. However, they offer a natural appearance, are not toxic in long term, and improve the strength of the tooth.

Could filled teeth get cavities again?
Fillings are a very effective solution to stop and counteract the affectation of tooth decay. However, they do not guarantee that the tooth will be exempt from cavities in the future. It is the same with root canals, even though the nerve is dead, the treatment does not guarantee that the tooth is safe from a new attack of bacteria.
Dental caries is the most widespread chronic disease in the world. Prevent cavities from damaging your teeth again, following these recommendations:
- Adequate oral hygiene
- Use of fluoride toothpaste
- Reduce the consumption of free sugars (added to foods and beverages by the manufacturer)
- Regular preventive dental check-ups

Composite Resin Fillings Treatment Alternatives
Dental Crown
After the removal of the Amalgam Filling, you would benefit from placing a Dental Crown for the protection and functionality of the tooth. Not to mention to give you a better aesthetic look.
Veneers
If you are looking for a more Cosmetic approach to a brighter smile, Veneers are a good alternative to Crowns. Veneers require less prep work and preserve more of your tooth structure. Malocclusion issues and/or Bruxism may not be candidates for Veneers.
Root Canal
Perhaps when removing the Amalgam Filling we have compromised the pulp chamber of the tooth. In this case, you would need a Root Canal, followed by a post and core build-up and a Crown for the protection of the tooth.
