QUALITY MATERIAL
Dental Crowns made of Porcelain and Zirconia

The difference between the materials is that zirconia is much stronger than porcelain and is good for the premolars and molar area. E.max porcelain is best for its aesthetic values and is good for the anterior teeth (canines, centrals, and laterals). Porcelain fused to metal crowns are also good for its strength and durability values. We have our in-house laboratory with CAD/CAM technology, which allows us to design perfectly dimensioned dental crowns in any material, faster and accurately.

Possible Additional Costs

As a result of your initial evaluation, certain additional treatments might be necessary to complete your dental work, you can find the prices for them below:

Different Types of Dental Crowns

We offer you the best types of Dental Crowns: E.max Porcelain, Zirconia, or Yellow Gold. Choosing the Dental Crown that is right for you will depend on your medical needs, aesthetic and budget

E.max Porcelain Crown

E.max is the newest cosmetic porcelain, a highly esthetic solution for its excellent light transmission, true-to-nature shade behavior, and strong. This porcelain is ideal for fabricating single-tooth restorations or complete smile makeovers. The ceramic two-layer system produces highly esthetic results and is 2.5 to three times stronger than other glass-ceramic systems used today.

Porcelain crowns are considered the most aesthetically appealing. The material makes it easy for dentists to fabricate a dental crown that matches the color of surrounding teeth, so they can look very realistic.

E.max Porcelain Crown
Zirconia Crown

Zirconia crown is an excellent option if you want a natural look or if you are allergic to metals. By removing the need for the supportive metallic core, we can create it with a reduced thickness of the material. It is the best option in areas with limited space and even allows light transmission through porcelain for a higher level of aesthetics.

Zirconia crowns
Yellow Gold Crown

Although the yellow gold crown is not as popular as a treatment option for aesthetic reasons, it is still indicated sometimes, as is the case of patients who clenching or grinding, or those with strong bites might be better served with a gold crown. Since traditional restorative material provides strong support to the remaining healthy tooth structure, a golden crown offers a high level of durability, especially to molars as they are not visible for its location in the back of the mouth.

Gold crowns require less preparation than porcelain-fused-to-metal and porcelain alternatives, and also offer greater longevity. Gold is less abrasive to the opposing tooth than porcelain when chewing. This helps to prevent the wearing of the teeth.

Yellow Gold Crowns

Dental Crowns in Mexico Procedure

Dental Crowns are done by our restorative specialists and involve shaving a small amount of the enamel surface from the tooth in order to get proper retention for the crown. Consequently, dental crowns are a great solution if you suffer from cracked, chipped, misaligned, or stained teeth. Dental crowns can help you to correct TMJ issues, restore bites, protect teeth that have had root canals therapy done on them or for purely cosmetic reasons.

In some cases, a crown should require other kinds of procedures such as post and core build-ups, root canals, and crown lengthening.

There are different materials used for crowns. At Cancun Dental Specialists we use E.max porcelain from Ivoclar Vivadent, zirconium from Zirkonzhan, and noble metals for porcelain fused to metal restorations. You will select the option that best suits you during your initial evaluation with our dental specialist.

After Dental Crowns
Appointment Instructions

A Dental Crown treatment takes from two to three appointments to complete. During the custom restoration, we place a temporary crown to protect the teeth. If anesthesia has been used, you may feel your tongue, lips, and teeth numb for some hours after the appointment, so, don’t chew until the numbness has worn off. You may also experience some cold, hot, or pressure sensitivity too, don’t worry it is normal.

If you feel your gums sore for several days, use warm salt water to rinse three times a day, it could help to reduce swelling and pain. Remember to use medications as directed by the specialist.

It is not common for temporary dental crowns to come off, so in case this happens, keep the temporary and contact us, thus we can re-cement it.  It is essential that a temporary crown stays in place, for the proper fit of your final restoration. To prevent this from happening, do not eat hard and sticky foods (especially gum), and chew only on the opposite side of the mouth.  It’s essential to brush as usual but floss very carefully mainly on the side of the treatment to prevent the removal of the temporary crown.

In case you have persistent pain or feel your bite uneven, or you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Inlays / Onlays in Mexico

Maybe you have some minor issues with your teeth that you would like to address, without having to commit to a full contour Crown. Inlays and Onlays are Dental Restorations used to fix teeth with mild to moderate issues such as minor decay or small fractures of the teeth. With an Inlay / Onlay, the dentist is able to conserve more of the tooth structure which is good also for the patient. We use E-Max porcelain for these restorations which is the strongest and most aesthetic porcelain on the market today. An Inlay is a Restoration that lies inside the cusps of the tooth, whereas the Onlay is a bit more extensive and extends over the cusps of the tooth.

How is my tooth prepared for a dental crown?

We prepare your tooth reshaping and recontour it for the dental crown to fit properly and then take a digital impression of your tooth. Since we use state-of-the-art technology and have our in-house lab, it may require only two visits to finish your dental crown. In some cases, more visits may be required, and a temporary crown is used.

What is “the post”?

The post is a piece of metal or plastic required for teeth that don’t have a good structure to give support to the crown.

We also use it as a frame for a dental crown on teeth with root canal treatment.

Do you have another alternative to a dental crown?

As another alternative may be a “large filling” placed, but it has the risk of fracture and may need additional treatments.

What materials are used to make dental crowns?

There are different materials to create dental crowns, but at Cancun Dental Specialists we use:

  • E.max Porcelain from Ivoclar Vivadent
  • Zirconia from Zhirkonzahn
  • Yellow Gold
Does the tooth prep for a dental crown hurt?

We use a local anesthetic when we prepare the tooth for a dental crown, so you shouldn’t feel anything.

On post crown procedures, as there is no nerve in the tooth, a local anesthetic is not necessary.

How do I book an appointment with Cancun Dental Specialists?
