What is Cavity Removal in Mexico

Here at Cancun Dental Specialists, we take a therapeutic and minimally invasive approach to treating Cavities. Here in Cancun, we use the Waterlase i-Plus hard and soft tissue laser which is used to remove the decay, leave smooth preparation margins for the filling, and provide a pain-free treatment for the patient. Once the tooth has been rid of all the decay, your doctor will fill the reaming area with a Composite Resin, which can be chosen to match your natural tooth color. Fillings are then smoothed and the height is adjusted so that you have a comfortable and highly aesthetic restoration.

How does Cavity Removal work?

Your mouth is filled with bacteria that produce acid. These acids, when not taken care of by brushing, flossing, and rinsing, can lead to tooth decay. This is the process where the bacteria eats away at minerals of the tooth causing toothaches, bad breath, and erosion. When not taken care of, this could lead to tooth loss, infection, and other restorative measures.

Using the Biolase Waterlase iPlus system in Cancun, we are able to protect more of the natural tooth structure which may not always be the case when working with traditional handpieces, which vibrate and can cause a practitioner to remove more of the tooth structure than planned.

The best way to get rid of a cavity is to prevent them from forming. This is done by practicing good oral hygiene, brushing 2-3 times a day, flossing after meals, and seeing your dentist regularly for check-ups.

Dental Crowns
Dental Crown

If your decay or fractures are too large for us to restore the tooth with a single Inlay/Onlay, then the next option would be to Crown the tooth completely. A full Dental Crown covers all the surfaces of your tooth and is cemented permanently. Dental Crowns can come in E-Max porcelain, Zirconium, or porcelain fused to metal.

Extraction
Extraction

If the tooth has been severely decayed to the gum line or if their tooth is found to be brittle upon physical evaluation we may have to extract the tooth to prevent further infection.

Root Canal
Root Canal

Perhaps when removing the Amalgam Filling we have compromised the pulp chamber of the tooth. In this case, a Root Canal would be needed, likely followed by a Post and Core Build-Up and a Crown for the protection of the tooth from further fractures or filtration of bacteria.

Pulpectomy in Cancun Mexico

Pulpectomy Mexico

A Pulpectomy is needed when caries have affected both the pulp tissue of the crown and the root of the tooth. The procedure consists in removing the pulp to then applying a disinfecting agent which acts to calm the nerve tissues still in the tooth and seals the canals.

A Pulpectomy is done by an Endodontist and is usually followed by a restoration such as a Crown or Composite Resin Filling.

This procedure involved the removal of a certain portion of the pulp that is infected due to a number of reasons. The pulp, which is below the enamel, can get infected as the enamel was affected by decay and this decay has not gone that deep into the tooth structure, and there is a chance to save the tooth without having to perform a Root Canal Therapy entirely.

How are Pulpectomies performed at CDS?

As our standards are aligned globally to the best practices accepted in Canada, the US, and Mexico, they are performed with the utmost care and always with previous study and analysis by our specialists.

The procedure involves:

  1. Administering local anesthesia on the area
  2. Removal of the infected pulp of the tooth from the roots
  3. Cleansing of the tooth, disinfection, and filling with the prescribed materials
  4. Placing a dental restoration, for example, an Inlay, an Onlay or a Crown
  5. The dental specialist  will prescribe antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection

Differences between Pulpectomy and Pulpotomy

In pulpotomy, the coronal part of the pulp is removed while in the Pulpectomy procedure, the crown and the root canal of the pulp chamber are removed. In other words, Pulpotomy restores and saves the tooth infected by a deep cavity while in Pulpectomy(similar to a root canal)  the specialist removes all the pulp from teeth from the crown to the roots. After removal, the area is cleaned, disinfected, and filled.
